Jazz Phools
We are excited to welcome the Jazz Phools from Spring Hill (FL) to our Saturday night main dance! The Jazz Phools have played for swing events around Florida and at Sweet Swingouts 2018. We are glad to have them back in Gainesville once again.
Djs
Dominic Howarth
Dominic likes saxophones, groovin' out, and long walks on dance floors. When he DJs, you know it'll be smooth sailing, from sumptuous organ solos to rip-rockin' rhythm and blues, he enjoys shout choruses that actually make you want to shout, and listening to his audience as much as he listens to the music, to make sure everyone is enjoying the party and swinging out. And yes, this picture is his face almost all the time.
Alex Morrison
Alex works tirelessly to inspire a love of jazz and its history through his sets. He began DJing in 2014 when he realized his local scene needed far more clarinet solos. He loves introducing people to eclectic covers of old favorites and encouraging them to actively engage with the music in their dancing. When not traveling, he can be found helping run his home scene of Swing L.A.B. in Pensacola, Florida.
Shyanne Taylor
Shyanne likes dancing and playing music. She will be joining us from St. Pete and we are so excited to have her!
Zach Bush
Originally based out of Gainesville, Zach has been dancing, teaching and DJing swing for well over 5 years. After being introduced to the dance early on in his graduate career, swing quickly became one of his favorite hobbies. He’s attended workshops and exchanges throughout the southeast and made countless new friends while doing so! In addition, he’s been lucky enough to have the opportunity to dance in countries across the world including Germany and Iceland. Wanting to improve his musicality within his own dancing and his appreciation of the music itself he began to DJ at his home scene and has enjoyed it ever since. Zach enjoys DJing a variety of different genres but specializes in Swing and Blues. As a DJ he strives to keep you dancing out on the floor for each and every song.
Clare Davila
Clare has been dancing for almost three years now, but her love for jazz and grooving have been with her for way longer. In middle school, she played trombone for her jazz ensemble, enjoying its big and brassy tone. She loves sharing amazing music with amazing people, and has been doing so at various events in her home town at weekly college dances, house parties, and even at her sister scene in St. Pete! Whether it’s the new guard of Michael Gamble & His Rhythm Serenaders or the swinging syncopation of Ella Fitzgerald, Clare will find a way to keep a room full and the party stomping.
Amye Francis
Gainesville local and GLX's event organizer, Amye, will bring some of her favorite songs to the dance floor at the end of GLX's last dance of the weekend. Amye enjoys seeing dancers have fun with the music she plays and is always in search of songs that will bring dancers to the dance floor, as well as songs that have fun and uncommon elements in them. Amye has even ventured out to play an occasional set off of vinyl records. Though Amye's primary goal is to play whatever songs will keep the dance floor happy, she has an appreciation for the whole spectrum of tempos and feels that they all should be danced to more frequently. It should come as no surprise as she has a special place in her heart for balboa and slow dancing (especially slow bal) and also likes to challenge herself with some fast lindy. In addition to her home scene, Amye also enjoys traveling to the Orlando area on a semi-normal basis to dj.
